The weather of Texas has once again started showing its color. The strong and heavy rain that started in July 2025 engulfed many areas of Texas. The maximum effect was seen in the areas of Central Texas – where the famous Camp Mystic in Kerr County became the victim of a major flash flood.

Every year, thousands of girls spend their summer vacations at the famous Camp Mystic. But this time, the weather was different.

Flash Flood – Sudden Disaster

On the nights of July 3 and 4, the rain in Central Texas was so intense that it flooded in just a few hours and rivers broke their banks. The Guadalupe River, which passes near Camp Mystic, suddenly poured a ton of water and entered the camp without any warning.

More than 150 people gathered in the camp, including children, staff and some parents – were immediately shifted to high alert.

Rescue Operation – Brave Work

As soon as the situation went out of control, Texas emergency services immediately reacted. Helicopters, boats and local volunteers put together a tremendous rescue operation.

Many people near the Guadalupe River were trapped. More than 50 girls were pulled out of Camp Mystic by rescue boats.

The sheriff’s office and fire department said:

> “If it had been 30 minutes more, many people would have lost their lives.”

The powerlessness of parents—every second felt like a hundred years

As soon as the news of the flash flood went viral on social media, parents from all over Texas who had sent their children to Camp Mystic headed towards the camp. Phones were off, network was down – no one could understand where their daughters were and whether they were safe or not.

A parent told the news channel:

> “I was praying all the time, this was the most difficult time of my life.”

Thankfully no precious life was lost, but there was definitely psychological trauma.

History of Camp Mystic – A paradise that has become hell today

One of Texas's oldest and most prestigious summer camps is Camp Mystic. Since its establishment in 1926, this camp has been a favorite of girls from upper-class families every year. Sports, swimming, bonfire nights, music programs – all these things are part of this camp.

But in the summer of 2025, this camp became a horror story.

Failure of Flash Flood Warning System

This incident has raised another big question – are our warning systems enough?

The National Weather Service had definitely forecast rain, but no one had thought that the flash flood would come so fast. Questions are being raised on the local authorities as to why they did not alert the camp administration on time?

Future of Camp Mystic – Will it open again?

The camp has been temporarily shuttered following the sudden flood. The infrastructure has suffered a lot of damage – cabins are broken, power lines have collapsed and the kitchen area is completely ruined.

Camp directors have said:

 > "Our top goal is the security of our campers and employees. The camp won't reopen until all areas are safe.

Texas Government's Response

The Texas Governor has declared an emergency and FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) has been deployed. In areas devastated by flooding, relief camps, medical facilities, and food supply centers have been established.

A special rescue and recovery plan has been designed under the leadership of Camp Mystic.

Climate Change –true culprit

Experts say this was not just a natural disaster – it is also the result of climate change. Every year, Texas's rainfall patterns change.More intense rainfall is causing more destruction in less time.
